Product Management

Are you are thinking about building your career in Product Management?

If yes, then focus on three important skills:

1) Product Thinking:
– As a product manager, the first skill that you bring to the table is your ability to solve problems.
– Product thinking is the way of examining design decisions to create effective products.

– Ask questions frequently. For example “Who is this product for?” What problem are we trying to solve?”, “How will we do this?” etc.
– Develop analytical skills and the ability to divide a big problem into small tasks.

2) Customer Empathy:
– Who are you creating the product for? Customers.
– The customer is the linchpin of the product development process.

– A good product manager can identify the customers’ problems even when they cannot express them completely.
– Read between the lines. Identify which problem to focus on.

– Always listen actively. Observe your surroundings.
– To take it one step further, empathize with your team members too.

3) Tech/Data Understanding:
– As a PM, you will have to handle the technical aspects of the product too.
– Understanding the basic concepts and know-how will help your speak the same language as the experts and developers in your team and build better relationships with them.

I hope this helps you to understand the role of a product manager.
